Carlos Sainz's Debut in Blue

Going from winning races to racing for winning points in the mid-field, if the stars align, would be a new chistening for Carlos Sainz all right.
After being replaced at Ferrari by Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz's next move had the paddock in its grip. While he had held out for spots in the top teams, Mercedes and RedBull had other plans with McLaren solidly set with its own driver lineup.
While both Mercedes and RedBull driver lineup saw changes, RedBull has made some questionable choices with first, letting Checo stay as long as they did and second, replacing Checo with Liam Lawson. For surely, Carlos Sainz was a better option in terms of optics as well as performance.
Mercedes had stuck with Kimi Antonelli from the get-go. There were rumours around the paddock that it could be a simple switch with Hamilton going to Ferrari and Sainz simply moving to Mercedes but the offer never really came. Toto Wolff's plans for Kimi Antonelli were put in fast-track instead leaving George to lead the rookie in the 2025 season.
But Carlos Sainz joined Williams for his 2025 season, at the very back of the grid.
Carlos Sainz at Williams Racing for end of season testing 2024

At the end of the 2024 season, Williams finished at nineth position in the Constructors'.

James Vowles is embarking on his second season of Formula One as a Team Principal in 2025 and there is faith in his management style to restore the team's former glory. Even if he succeeds, it will be quite a while before Sainz is winning races again. In fact, signing Sainz is one of his prominent achievements this year and considering the experience he is bringing from a top team like Ferrari, there is only room for further growth.

While fans have been mourning the loss of Carlos in red, this goodbye was made bittersweet by Lewis Hamilton himself replacing him. Carlos had expressed similar sentiments about the departure. As he bid a teary-eyed goodbye to the team and teammate, Charles Leclerc, he was seen in the Williams car with 55 livery soon after for end-of-season testing in Abu Dhabi. Williams Racing officially posted footage of him taking dilligent notes, having a hands-on approach and discussing the details of the car and his performance with the team.

While the Charlos (Charles + Carlos) driver lineup will go down in history for being iconic with their performance on track as well as off the track, Carlos has embarked on this journey, the next leg of his career, to have a more proactive role in the team and from the photos and videos, it looks like he has found his home, at least for the next two seasons.

The seven-time world champion's journey back to the podium has been long and difficult. Since losing the controversial 2021 championship battle to Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi —when a disputed safety car decision denied him a record-breaking eighth title—Hamilton's career trajectory has been defined by struggle rather than success. The period following that devastating final-lap defeat marked a sharp decline for the British driver. Mercedes' difficulties with the 2022 and 2023 ground-effect regulations left Hamilton winless for two full seasons—the first time in his F1 career he...

Ferrari's VSC Strategy Blunder Costs Leclerc Victory: "At Least One of Us Should Have Pitted" Fumes Hamilton

Scuderia's Refusal to Pit Under Lap 12 Virtual Safety Car Gifts Mercedes 12-Second Advantage and Ruins Podium Hopes. Ferrari threw away a genuine shot at victory in the Australian Grand Prix through a catastrophic strategy error, keeping both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton out during the lap 12 Virtual Safety Car that allowed Mercedes to pit both drivers and gain a decisive 12-second advantage. Leclerc had led the opening laps after a brilliant start from P4, passing both Isack Hadjar and Kimi Antonelli into Turn 1 to slot into second behind polesitter George Russell. Formula 1's race analysis confirmed Leclerc "led laps 3-11" after Russell pitted early, putting Ferrari in control of race strategy. However, when Hadjar's car stopped at Turn 4 triggering a Virtual Safety Car on lap 12, Ferrari made the baffling decision to keep both drivers out while Mercedes seized the opportunity to pit Russell and Antonelli under yellow flag conditions—gaining approximately...
